“Hogust” Is Here!

Trip Date: July 29 – August 2

If you were lucky enough to be here with us this year, then you might have experienced the best salmon fishing on the coast of British Columbia.

The full moon brought the best tides this trip and our guides and guests captured the moment to the nth degree. A whopping “47 Tyees” between 30 pounds and 52 pounds were angled by our guests during the past few days. Fifteen hogs over 40 pounds were either landed or released, with the majority being the latter.

Naden has been on fire for salmon fishing this season, and I have never witnessed this area this hot for producing so many trophy-sized springs in just a few days. The weighted rods haven’t seemed to miss, but the down riggers are slightly ahead for the over 50-pound class. The over 50 pounds has been off the charts this past week.

Parker Point was the chosen spot for Jorgen as he started the day with his guests. His well thought out plan did not disappoint Timur, as he successfully hooked, landed and released a beautiful 52-pound King.

The J & G group with guide Dan, had 3 springs over 40 pounds, and one 38-pounder on the first day. This was then followed by Glenn and guests catching and releasing 4 springs over 40 pounds on day two. Now that’s performance plus!

We were also very proud of the very young kids from Wisconsin that learned much on this trip as they managed to angle springs up to 43 pounds and gave each of their dads a competitive challenge. ” Halibut Hill ” has been producing the perfect size to take home and Kathleen was excited that her whitefish tipped the scales at 43 pounds. There were even a few halibut over 100 pounds, which were taped and released!

The lodge was abundant with joy and triumph each evening as each person regaled in the stories of the day with one another. There wasn’t much rest time on this trip for anyone, especially Janine our resident massage therapist, who was kept busy relaxing the achy muscles of our guests that enjoyed playing these hefty Chinooks.

The Humpback whales are breeching constantly and staying local for our guests to enjoy. This only means that the needlefish are plentiful for them to feed on, and where there is bait there is a another salmon run not far behind. We always welcome the Northwest winds which will be upon us for the next two days.

Thank you to all the guests on this trip for choosing Peregrine Lodge for their annual fishing adventure. We love having you here, and we were thrilled that you enjoyed some of the best fishing this year.

Until next time,

Best Wishes for Big Fishes
Georgia
