The Fish
Haida Gwaii receives the largest concentration of salmon passing through its waters. Peregrine Lodge is home to 5 amazing saltwater salmon species:
Chinook Salmon
Chinook are the hardest fighting salmon. They are commonly caught using the troll or mooching fishing method. Chinook are also known as king or spring salmon due to their big size. They are rated as one of the best tasting salmons due to their high oil content.
Coho Salmon
Coho feed closer to the surface of the water and close to kelp beds. Casting spoons or saltwater flies are the methods commonly used to target Coho salmon. They are one of the most prized salmon in B.C. because they have rich and delicious meat.
Pink Salmon
Pink salmon swim in waters closer to the beach because they feed close to the kelp beds. They provide amazing fly fishing opportunities and they are one of the easiest BC salmon to catch. They are the smallest of the BC salmon species and their runs are overwhelmingly large. They provide consistent sport fishery for anglers!
Sockeye Salmon
Sockeye salmon are often caught by trolling with a lighter fishing tackle. They are primarily red in colour during spawning season.
Chum Salmon
Chum salmon are strong and delicious tasting. They are also caught using the troll or mooching fishing method. Chum salmon are silver blue-green in colour and change to a dark olive green colour when they move into fresh water.
