The 2008 season has now come to a close, and as predicted by DFO it was a low abundance year. Although we had fewer number of chinook the number of fish over 40lb and 50lb was up considerably. Halibut continued to out perform our expectations and average weight of coho was also up.

We once again had a very successful catch and release program for the 2008 season. It was supported enthusiastically by the majority of our guest. Peregrine Lodge would also like to thank all of the participants in this program in helping us keep this valuable resource for future generations.

The winner of the 30lb to 40lb release category was Caroline Ritchie. Her fish weighed in at 34lbs. Congratulations Caroline, you have just won a trip for two back to Peregrine Lodge for the 2009 season. Thank you Caroline for particapating in the catch and release program.

The winner of the 40lb to 50lb release category was Julis Szabo. His fish weighed in at 42lbs. Congratulations Julis, you have just won a trip for two back to Peregrine Lodge for the 2009 season. Thank you again for your participation in the catch and release program.

The winner of the over 50lb release category was James Steele Jr.. His fish weighed in at 54lbs .Congratulations James, what a fish to release ! I hope it was as much of a thrill for you as it was for the Peregrine Lodge team to see that you released such a beautiful fish.

Once again our catch and release program contributed 30% of our total chinook being released for the 2008 season.

In 2008 we introduced our first ” Mercury Big Fish Challenge” catch and release derby. The derby was a two day event and was a total catch and release of chinook based on the total weight released of each angler. The event was hosted and filmed by Mark Pendlington of Sports Fishing B.C. There was a total of 24 anglers and it was a fun and great time for all. Fishing was better than expected.

First prize went to Cliff Montgomery with a total weight of 122lbs

Second prize went to Kyle Hehn with a total weight of 76lbs

Third prize went to Brian Hesje with a total weight of 70lbs
