Fishing Report July 14-17,2019

This trip might not have had warm Summer weather but it sure had some hot summer fishing.
The Helijet brought us guests from as far away as the Philippines and Spain and as close as Gibson’s Landing
The first morning out, Harry, who was visiting us from Madrid landed a nice Tyee. Not only was this his first time fishing but he hooked up within 30 minutes of dropping his line.
The Coho fishing was super hot this week. One boat would find the school and then relay details to the rest of the fleet. Ten pulls to thirty, they were at different depths and mooching was the way to go.
Drop your lines, hookup, land the fish, repeat. That’s pretty much how it went as far as the Coho were concerned.
The guides were fishing a mix of either flashers or bait plugs. It seems like one was working just as well as the other.
Day one weigh in a lot of guests had already caught their retention limit in either Coho or Halibut.
This takes the pressure off for the rest of the trip and you can target what ever slots you have left open on your fishing license.

Day two is always a fun day with Chef Monsour’s famous donuts and the Burger Boat. For some reason the burgers always taste better when consumed on a boat surrounded by incredible scenery, breathing in some of the freshest air in the world and working up an appetite with some world class fishing. The donuts taste good no matter where you eat them!
Once again the guides hit their favorite holes looking for those elusive Hogs. Fish for Chinook, head offshore for Coho and Halibut. That has become the pattern as the season goes on.
At weigh-in on day two the salmon quotas were reached by many guests so Halibut and bottom fish became the desired catch.
Some really nice Ling Cod were brought in as well.

The last day always gets an early start so we were off to the fishing grounds by 6:30 and there were some tight lines almost as soon as they hit the water!
Lots of guests were able to complete their lists and made it back to the dock early to enjoy the activities at Peregrine Lodge.
At the end of the day the catches were all packaged and carefully labeled, the guests were all tired but happy and the crew was excited to get out the next day and do it all again.
Does it get any better than this? We’ll see next trip!
