July 20th marked the start of our tenth trip of the year here at Peregrine Lodge, and once again, our guests were able to astound us with their superb angling abilities.

The big Chinook of the trip came early on the second morning, when Ryan, a masterful guide here at Peregrine, chose to take returning guest Glen to “the dark side.” After over a half hour of pulsating action, including some frantic boat-side excitement, Ryan was able to call captain Wayne with release measurements. The fleet waited in silence for the response, which was met with roars and cheers when it came in at an astonishing 49 pounds. It was the second monster trophy fish of the season for Glen who has chosen Peregrine Lodge as his fishing adventure destination twice already this season, adding to the 50-pound Chinook he caught and released 2 weeks ago!

The fourth day saw another remarkable fish caught by Kevin Ahnert. Fishing off of Cape Naden with his guide Brent just after noon, Kevin was able to hook into a massive 37 pound Tyee right beside the kelp bed using a fresh cut-plug herring. It was one heck of a fight, and one heck of a fish.

The spotlight was not only on big Chinooks this trip, as there were many other amazing fish caught! Notable among these was a 13 pound Coho caught by David Paisley, the biggest coho of the year, and a beautiful 31 pound halibut reeled in by Laura. However, the attention on the final day was stolen away from these beautiful catches by our guide Johnny, who truly had the catch of the day. His girlfriend, whom he was guiding for the day, accepted his marriage proposal out on the water, drawing huge cheers from surrounding boats, and prompting me to end with a congratulations from all of us at Peregrine Lodge!
