Trip number 9 has just finished here at Peregrine Lodge and the fishing is only getting better! This week we had some amazing weather, with glassy seas and clear blue skies. The vibes were immaculate both out on the water, and back at the lodge. We struggle to think of a better combination than bent rods and calm seas!

The second run is beginning here in Haida Gwaii and that means the numbers of those big fish is increasing. The biggest chinook caught this trip was a tyee at 31lbs which put a big smile on both the guide’s and the guest’s faces. We also had a 28lbs spring and more in the lower to mid 20lbs range. The coho are also growing, with more and more 9lb cohos being reeled in. Those bigger cohos put up quite a fight and taste great! On top of the salmon, a magnificent 105lb halibut was caught and released on the last day of the trip.

While the weather was beautiful, the water is still pretty cold in Haida Gwaii. Which made it all the more impressive when a group of guests went for a swim off the dock one evening! Good thing we have the fire pit all set to go so they can warm up quick!
