Fishing Report July 30-August 2, 2023

What a week we have had here during our 14th trip of the season! Hogust started a day early in Haida Gwaii and we genuinely cannot wait to see what else it has in store for us for the rest of the month. The waters were calm throughout the trip which made for some really nice days out on the water. These calm waters make it so you can really take in all the scenery and wildlife as your catch your fish. Guests were treated to orcas and humpbacks on almost every single day of their stay!

Now onto the fish! The first day of this trip started off with a bang, or two! The hoots and hollers were heard all throughout the fishing grounds as a 61lbs spring was successfully landed in one of our boats. This fish was an absolute specimen, as you can see from the photos. Without a scratch on her she was pristine from tip to tail! These fish are incredibly special and hold a truly significant place in our hearts. Both the guide and the guest will have a memory to last a lifetime after landing this one.

Then, not even half an hour later, the cheers rang out across the water again as a 54lbs spring was landed by another guide! The look of joy on the guides face in the photo says a thousand words. Yet another incredible moment captured here at Peregrine lodge. And what made both of the moments even better is that both of these beautiful hogs were safely released back into the ocean and swam off with strength! We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again; these fish are incredible to catch and somehow even more incredible to release. The feeling we get knowing that these fish can go on to populate the waters with more hogs for the future anglers to hook on to is unmatched. This is what fishing in Haida Gwaii is all about!
